What you can check
- See ready and not-ready monitors on a supported car before the MOT.
- Treat the result as a workshop pre-check, with the lamp status beside it.
- Avoid using a code clear as a way to hide a fault the night before the test.
United Kingdom
UK MOT tests on newer cars include a check that the engine computer has completed its emissions monitors. A car can have no warning lamp and still be not ready, often after a battery disconnect or a recent code clear.
With Full Access, BTK-Auto can show OBD-II readiness and monitor state as advice before you go to the test station. Basic Scan remains the free fault-code read. Neither result is an MOT certificate.
Clearing codes just to turn a lamp off can reset those monitors. If you clear, drive the car through its normal cycles before you rely on a readiness screen.
