Check engine light app for Android

A check engine light, also called the malfunction indicator lamp, means the engine computer has stored a fault. BTK-Auto reads that information from the car with a compatible classic Bluetooth ELM327 adapter. You do not need a separate diagnostic tablet for the functions the app supports.

Basic Scan is free. It can show stored and pending OBD-II fault codes, the VIN, MIL status and module voltage when the vehicle exposes them. It does not clear codes and it does not write to the car.

Full Access is £4.99 a month or £49.99 a year. It adds live data, supported module diagnostics, fault-code clearing where the path allows it, and a workshop report. Advanced jobs still depend on the exact car, ECU and adapter.

What you can check

  • See why a check engine light is stored, as an OBD-II code, before you book a garage.
  • Read pending codes that have not turned the lamp on yet, when the ECU exposes them.
  • Keep the first read free, then pay only if you need live data or a clear.

What this does not promise

  • Promise the light will stay off. If the fault is still present, the lamp comes back.
  • Replace a compression test, a smoke test or a dealer online procedure.
  • Program keys, change an odometer, or flash ECU firmware.
